I feel it’s important to the consumer to know what they are getting - for the money they are spending. I want to inform you of the general materials and expenses I incur to make personalized high quality handcrafted wood carved sign. I generally use cedar and pine wood for making wood carved signs. I use quality spray ink to fill in the letters, numbers and background - paint is not the best choice to use on cedar, however some of the paints out now are day good and stand up to weather. Ink can be quite expensive, but it worth it when making a quality product that will last with the least amount of maintenance. Finishing with a spar-polyurethane, each sign gets a positive coating on the front, edges and back, to help seal things up for added preservation and protection. A positive coating is normally 3 to 5 coats. You may know, Spar-Polyurethane is a product formulated for outdoor use and I use it on my indoor products as well. I like the visual effect it has on the wood grain plus it brightens the letters and numbers. In addition to items listed above, there are many other items needed and costs to produce a well made signs such as; varies types sandpaper, router bits, the cost electricity to run all sanders, package materials, cutting tools and all the other many needs of a shop and office. This of course is not an exhaustive list but a general list to give you an idea what are used to make a quality wood carved sign. Lastly, there is the time in labor consisting to produce the sign itself. These signs are handcrafted one by one. All wood signs are made in Pittsburgh, PA USA
